"Blown Out of Our Comfort Zone"

When the early disciples gathered on that first Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection, they had no idea what to expect. This was completely uncharted territory for all of them. Their entire world had been turned upside down and would never be the same. I’m sure they were filled with some anxiety and trepidation about what the future might hold for their lives, individually and collectively. It is into this moment that the wind and fire of the Holy Spirit came upon them and filled them with a sense of both peace and purpose. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, they understood more fully Jesus’ imperative to them as he ascended, to go to all the nations, baptize, teach, and made more disciples. God was calling them out of their comfort zone and into new opportunities for ministry. So it is with all of us as we celebrate this Pentecost. Like those first disciples, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit and called into the world to bear witness to God’s redeeming love through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Even in the midst of uncertainty and change and our desire to stay where it is safe and comfortable, Jesus says to each of us, “remember, I am with you always”.

Exploring the Bible Together

Exploring the Bible Together

TUESDAYS @ 6:30pm

Shema Series: "Shema"

Join Pastor Jake Fain, Deacon Andrew More, and Pastor Paul Miller as we explore the Bible together.  To check out this week's episode in our new series, click on the title above.   The Shema is an important biblical prayer for Jewish people. This prayer summed up the greatest command for God's people.

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one, and as for you, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."

Begin your study of this ancient prayer by looking at the first word, shema, meaning "listen."

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
