Synod AssemblyJune 5-6, 2021 Have you ever been curious about how the wider church works? Peace Lutheran is a part of the Southwestern Texas Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Our congregational identity extends beyond the local church into these two other layers. Together they make up the national, synodical, and local church. The Synod is a collection of 130 ELCA congregations throughout South Texas. Each year a synod assembly takes place much like a congregational annual meeting that comes together to learn, to share stories of God’s work in the world, to elect leaders, and establish a missional budget to advance God’s work together. Visitors to the 2021 Digital Synod Assembly will be able to join via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/swtsynod For more information about the 2021 Digital Synod Assembly visit: www.swtsynod.org/pages/assembly |
Peace Prayer Clusters
Our Care Team joined together pondering how might we engage our community life together in this in-between time of pandemic “physical distancing” and our building renovation and returning to in-person activity. We want to begin with an intentional time of prayer connecting us to the Lord. Because when we are connected to God, we are naturally connected to God’s community. Therefore, we have divided the congregation into clusters of five households and are asking you to pray for each family in your cluster during the month of June and know that they will also be praying for you. Do you need to know these families? No, but feel free to contact them and introduce yourself. What do you pray for? You can simply lift up their names to God and trust that God knows their needs. You can get to know your cluster and ask specifically what needs you can share. What do I do if I haven’t received a prayer cluster invitation? Contact the church office at office@peacenb.org or 830-620-0618 and we can add you to our mailing list. Trust that we are brothers and sisters in Christ and that God is connecting us in deep ways through our prayers. I hope this deepens your prayer life and connections to God’s people. |
Exploring the Bible TogetherTUESDAYS @ 6:30pm Pastor Jake Fain, Deacon Andrew More, and Pastor Paul Miller as we explore the Bible together. To check out this week's episode in our Shema Series, click on the title above. Love can be a confusing word in the English language. It's used to refer to everything from your feelings to your mom to your feelings about pizza. But the biblical authors had more than one word for love. In this video, we explore the Hebrew word used for love in the ancient Shema prayer, ahavah. Each Tuesday from 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm we will have an open discussion of one of the Bible Project videos. This week it will be helpful, but not required, for you to watch the YouTube video above, Shema Series: "Love". We’ll spend about 30 minutes unpacking the video and opening it up for questions, insights, comments, etc. This link will work for all subsequent Tuesdays, so keep it handy. Anyone is welcome to join us! No experience with Bible study (or even the Bible) is necessary! Join us as we explore the Bible together!

Three Expressions of the Church
We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
