Sunday's Preview

Who Belongs To Whom?

It all starts in the Garden of Eden -  humanity’s desire to possess what is beyond its reach. It seems like it is an inherent character of our broken human nature from that point forward, and yes, even today. We want to possess and control. We want to have everything on our own terms. This includes our relationship with God.

In our gospel text for this Sunday (John 6:1-21), Jesus makes it clear that we cannot possess him. As much as we would like, we do not own Jesus. We cannot control Jesus. Jesus does not exist to fulfil our selfish purposes and appetites. Jesus is not a spiritual commodity for us to exploit for our own causes. Rather, Jesus gives freely out of his abundant love, compassion and goodness, and does this how and when Jesus so desires. It is not up to us to control. We belong to God, not the other way around. As God’s children, our response is to receive the gifts of Jesus’ love, grace, and mercy with thanksgiving and humility, and to invite others to do the same.

Exploring the Bible Together

Exploring the Bible Together

TUESDAYS @ 6:30pm

Creation Series: Psalm 8

Join Pastor Jake Fain, Deacon Andrew More, and Pastor Paul Miller as we explore the Bible together.  To check out this week's episode in our video series, "Creation," click on the title above.  What exactly is the role of humans in the story of the Bible? Why does God care so much about us as powerless, created beings, and why are we compared to babbling babies in Psalm 8? In this video, we explore God’s purpose for humanity and all creation.

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.

Congregation: Peace Lutheran Church
