Sunday's Preview

Sunday's Preview

Between Heaven and Earth

Read  Revelation 21:1-6a and John 11:32-44

All Saints Day follows All Hallows Eve or what we truncate to – Halloween.  It is the day of remembrance of those saints of God both the living and the dead and now living in Christ.

We commemorate this All Saints Sunday remembering that there are beginnings, endings, and new beginnings in the resurrection power of Jesus.  Tears are holy; lament is healing – because in so doing God reveals a deeper truth of hope.

Join us on this Sunday as we celebrate God’s gracious hand and the communion of saints together in Christ.

Seekers and Sponges:  Sunday, November 7  8:30am in-person and ZOOM
Seekers and Sponges will continue with Episode 2 the Medieval Church as we explore Luther: Gospel, Law, and Reformation.  Our discussion each Sunday will be preceded by a video lecture given by Phillip Cary, Professor at Eastern University.   Cary points out that while Martin Luther was only one man—a humble monk and Bible professor—yet he sparked a religious rebellion that changed the course of history.  Who was he?  What made his theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe?  How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world as we know it?  And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul?  Please join us for a discussion following the DVD lecture.  We will be meeting in person at Peace and also by Zoom.

Click HERE to join by Zoom.

Breakfast is Served

Sunday, November 21 @ 9:00am

Come join us for a full breakfast and some good conversation.  MayaWorks will be here so you can eat and shop!

MayaWorks

MayaWorks

Sunday, November 21 @ 9:00am

MayaWorks will set up their artisanal products for sale in the Narthex on Sunday, November 21.

Today MayaWorks partners with over 125 artisans in six communities along the Central Highlands of Guatemala. The organization has two offices, one in Guatemala staffed by local women who work directly with the artisans and one in Chicago that distributes and markets the product.

MayaWorks helps women transform their skills into a means of financial support for their families by creating a market for the traditional arts of Maya artisans. Textile products are distributed within wholesale and retail markets and are also sold by U.S. women in their local communities.  At its core, MayaWorks is about creating work for women so that they can financially support their families and become fully contributing members of their communities.

Giving Guatemalan women an opportunity to earn an income from their skills gives them self-confidence and hope for themselves, their families and their communities. For U.S. women, reaching across borders to give a hand up to help women in developing countries allows them to participate in economic justice on a global level.

For more information about MayaWorks visit their website @ www.mayaworks.org

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
