Sunday's PreviewReformation The church commemorates the Martin Luther and the Reformation this Sunday, Oct 25. 500 years ago the church took a hard look at itself and said, how might we be re-formed in God’s image. Reformation is a continual process in which we are shaped by God. Join us this Sunday to hear the story of our modern Reformation in which God continues to remake us. |
Music Program Staffing Changes
Our music program like many of the other ministries at Peace has had a hard time during the pandemic. Trying to mobilize people in a safe manner has been challenging to say the least. Even before the pandemic, we have been trying to find a new path forward as a music ministry. In February we launched a couple of musical workshops with the intent of drawing our various groups together to develop a united direction as our dynamics have changed over the years. However, that work was stalled and never fully realized. Additionally, over the course of the past seven months several members have decided to leave Peace and a number of them were from the choir. This past week we underwent some staffing changes in our music program. Carole Krueger, our Bell Director and Walt Sparkman our Choir Director were let go of music program duties. These were very difficult and painful decisions. We extend gratitude for their years of ministry leadership. I encourage you to express your heartfelt thanksgiving to them. What does this mean for Music Ministry? Council is charging a Music Ministry Task Force to re-evaluate where God is calling us in an overarching capacity in this time and place as Peace Lutheran Church. This body will take a deep dive and explore what our needs are both internally for those who are among us now, and for those who God is calling us to serve in the future. As I write these words during the week of Reformation, I am reminded of Martin Luther’s great witness, “Semper Reformanda” which means always reforming. Things have life cycles. People have life cycles. Churches and their programs have life cycles. What is important is not the perpetuation of any one program, but the mission that drives it. Music will always be an important part of our worship life together. But changes and reformation of that structure help foster the new seasons of life. Please keep our music ministry in your prayers and stay tuned for more updates. Peace, Pastor Jake |

Peace DialoguesSunday, October 25 @ 12PM Join us for our third discussion in a series of "Peace Dialogues" via Zoom on Sunday, October 25, from noon to 1:00pm. During our conversations together, several facilitators will guide us as we explore what it means to listen compassionately, and discuss what it means to engage in loving, peaceful, productive dialogue even in the midst of disagreement. For this Sunday’s "Peace Dialogues" we will be using material from the Kaleidescope Institute titled, “Race and Children”. We will examine how perception of race begins in childhood, and how developing awareness of these influences can help us become more sensitive and responsive to issues surrounding race as adults. For more information on "Peace Dialogues" visit our webpage HERE.

Thrivent WebinarOctober 29 at 6:30PM Living Generously: See a need? Learn more about how you cn make it happen! Join us October 29th for a webinar with Thrivent. This is for everyone: members of Thrivent as well as those who would like to learn more. Did you know Thrivent has distributed more than $370 million through Thrivent Choice charitable grants in the last ten years? Did you know you could have a voice in determining where that money goes? Action Teams are a great way to fund ministry events. Do you see a need in the church or the community and you would like to help but you need a little kickstart? Did you know eligible Thrivent members can apply for two Action Team grants each year? There are some of us who are members of Thrivent but are not aware of the opportunities to direct charitable outreach funds Thrivent distributes each year. Imagine the possibilities if we work together to put our ideas and resources together! Not a member of Thrivent but have ideas? Let's collaborate and make it happen! Bradley Dean with Heart of Texas Thrivent will be presenting the webinar. Some of you have met Bradley at Peace. He and his dad, Danny, provided meat and supplies for our last church picnic. Save the date, October 29th at 6:30 pm. More questions? Contact Bradley's office at 210-735-1130 or Robbi Will at 210-412-7573. |
