Sunday’s Preview – Palm/Passion Sunday

Sunday’s Preview – Palm/Passion Sunday

Mark 11:1-11 & Mark 14:1—15:47

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week as Jesus rides into Jerusalem to the sounds of the crowds praising his triumphal entry and declaring him their king.

But in just a few days, the cries of jubilation turn to the cries of the mob demanding his crucifixion and death. This week is the holiest week for Christians as we commemorate the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord.

You are invited to enter into the story for an experiential worship in which we do not merely become spectators of something that happened long ago; rather, we join the crowd and see Jesus’ love and lordship poured out for the sake of the world.

“God’s Work, Our Hands”

“God’s Work, Our Hands”

Sunday, April 14

Peace Lutheran Church is incredibly blessed by the many dedicated volunteers. Many of these volunteers work behind the scenes, quietly serving and sharing their gifts. This is a day set aside to say, “thank you”. This will also be a day that will encourage each and every one of us to share our “God given” gifts in our church, community and world.

Journey to Generosity: The Way of Jesus

Palm/Passion Sunday, March 24, 2024
“While [Jesus] was at home in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment of nard, and she broke open the jar and poured the ointment on his head.” – Mark 14:3
Today we enter Holy Week and walk the road with Jesus to the cross. The gospel lesson opens with a story of generosity. The unnamed woman anoints Jesus with a costly perfume. Jesus praises her lavish generosity and pure intent. What have you to bring to Jesus?

Maundy Thursday, March 28, 2024
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” – John 13:34
Today we remember Jesus’ selfless service. How may we better love and serve one another? What does it mean that Jesus terms loving one another “a new commandment”?

Good Friday, March 29, 2024
“And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” –Hebrews 10:24-25
Today we recall Jesus’ cruel death at the hands of empire. As the Body of Christ, we remember we have enormous capacity to do the hard holy work of love and care for all people.

Resurrection of the Lord, March 31, 2024
So [the women] went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.  –Mark 16:8
How often has fear silenced you from sharing faith or speaking the truth? Too often Christians are afraid to speak up. God can give us the power to speak up and speak out.

God's Storytime

Sunday Morning Worship with Our Children

NO GOD'S STORYTIME ON PALM SUNDAY (3/24) AND EASTER SUNDAY (3/31)

All Pre-K through Elementary grade children are invited each Sunday to join us for “God's Story”. This is our way of connecting God’s big story to their own stories at a level appropriate for young children. Together we dive into the scripture for the day using a variety of teaching resources. Our goal is to create a safe space for children to have meaningful conversations about God, Jesus, faith, and our everyday lives.

“God’s Story” takes place during the scripture and sermon portion of our worship service (about 20-25 minutes). We meet in our Fellowship Hall, which is in visible proximity to our sanctuary and restrooms. The children are led by our wonderful team of trained and background checked adults from our congregation. If you’d like to help or have any questions, please reach out to Deacon Andrew.

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
