Sunday’s Preview – Sabbath as Gift

Sunday’s Preview – Sabbath as Gift

Read Mark 2:23—3:6

Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy. That’s the third commandment. Often times the church shames folks who miss a Sunday – clearly, they have broken this commandment, right? Maybe there’s more to it.

Jesus reminds those religiously-minded people, the Pharisees, that the sabbath was made for humankind, not the other way around. The sabbath is more gift than requirement. In our hurried lives, the sabbath is not meant to bring one more thing to do in an already exhaustive laundry list. It is the gift to simply be in the presence of God and find rest and healing.

Join us on Sunday as we experience the gift of sabbath from our gracious God.

Stewardship

Stewardship

Journey to Generosity: The Way of Jesus

June 2: Proper 4, Second Sunday after Pentecost, Year B
Deuteronomy 5:12 – Observe the Sabbath day and keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
Do you need a break? In today’s nonstop, 24/7 world, we need Deuteronomy’s reminder that God actually commands us to stop working one day a week. Sabbath literally means “stop.” Good stewards maintain a good work/life balance. What would a “Holy stoppage” look like for you?

June 9: Proper 5, Third Sunday after Pentecost, Year B
Mark 3:21 – When his [Jesus’] family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, ‘He has gone out of his mind.’
Do people always understand your passionate decision to follow Jesus -- to turn your back on the world’s hatred, greed, lust, warmongering? The holy path can seem downright crazy to others, but the path of steward/discipleship leads us into God’s Realm.

June 16: Proper 6, Fourth Sunday after Pentecost, Year B
“So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17
Embracing the holy things of God, we are all new creations, changed for the better in a wide variety of ways. We see the world anew, through spiritual eyes of love, and relate with a heart of generosity and mercy. How is God re-creating you?

God's Storytime

Sunday Morning Worship with Our Children

All Pre-K through Elementary grade children are invited each Sunday to join us for “God's Story”. This is our way of connecting God’s big story to their own stories at a level appropriate for young children. Together we dive into the scripture for the day using a variety of teaching resources. Our goal is to create a safe space for children to have meaningful conversations about God, Jesus, faith, and our everyday lives.

“God’s Story” takes place during the scripture and sermon portion of our worship service (about 20-25 minutes). We meet in our Fellowship Hall, which is in visible proximity to our sanctuary and restrooms. The children are led by our wonderful team of trained and background checked adults from our congregation. If you’d like to help or have any questions, please reach out to Deacon Andrew.

We want this to be an open time for questions and conversation—all questions are allowed and encouraged! Think of it like “Christianity 101”, designed both for folks who are newer to learning about the Christian faith, as well as for anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in the world today. Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
