Sunday Preview – Solomon Dedicates the Temple

Sunday Preview – Solomon Dedicates the Temple

Read 1 Kings 5:1-5; 8:1-13

King Solomon is renowned as the zenith of Israel’s power in the Bible. He has wisdom, riches, and might. Although his father David does not build God a magnificent Temple, Solomon does.

Join us on Sunday as we explore how holy spaces are not a gift to God as much as they are meant to be a gift for us.

To catch up with where we left off last week and where we pick up this week, check out the video from the Bible Project which gives an overview of the Books of Kings https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/kings/

Mission Spotlight October 2024

Mission Spotlight October 2024

Crisis Center of Comal County

Our October Mission Spotlight is Crisis Center of Comal County.

The Crisis Center of Comal County provides emergency shelter and services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and women experiencing homelessness.

These services include licensed counselors for clients of all ages through individual and group counseling.  Legal advocacy takes clients through the steps necessary to obtain protective orders, affidavits and filing police reports.

The Crisis Center works with their clients to secure safe, stable housing and accompanies them to medical, legal and criminal service providers if needed.

Peace will collect a dedicated offering for CCCC on Sunday, October 27. You can visit their website for information about volunteering opportunities or shop and support the Comal Thrift Shop.

Mission Endowment Fund Grant Applications

Did you know that Peace Lutheran has a Mission Endowment Fund and that grants are given annually to extend God’s ministry to our community and beyond?  It does, and the application deadline for 2025 funding is fast approaching. Any application requests to be considered for 2025 fund disbursement must be received in the church office by October 31, 2024.

The fund is designed to further the missions of Peace Lutheran beyond the allocations of the general operating budget.  Grants are funded from the interest earned on contributions to the fund. Grant application forms are available from either the church office or church website. The forms can be filled out and returned to the church office by the October 31st deadline for consideration by the Mission Endowment Fund committee.

The new Endowment Fund section of the website can be found under the Give drop-down section of the Peace Lutheran main menu. In addition to the grant application form, you will find other helpful resources related to the fund and legacy planning. If you have any questions, please contact Nathan Anderson at nanderson5663@gmail.com.

Stewardship Drive: Grace in Action

Stewardship Drive: Grace in Action

What is Stewardship?

Stewardship - the conducting, supervising, or managing of something especially : the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care

All we have is a gift that has been given to us by the grace of God. God is a generous gift-giver which includes our lives, families, faith, basic needs, money, work, relationships, and even purpose. For that we are called to live graciously and generously joining the God of grace.

During the month of October, we are lifting up our stewardship campaign, Grace in Action, in which you are invited to explore the way God has entrusted you with spiritual gifts, so that you can offer and commission those gifts in service of the Lord. Please fill out our Spiritual Gifts Inventory HERE to help you clarify your gifts and for the church to help mobilize our community to fulfill God’s greater mission of love.

A pledge card will also be made available both online and in a future mailer to be brought back or filled out by Nov. 3rd for our Commitment/Stewardship Sunday.

Journey to Generosity: The Way of Jesus

October 27, 2024

Mark 10:51–Then Jesus said to him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "My teacher, let me see again."

The blind man articulates the faithful prayer of all steward-disciples. We want to see! Help us see the world around us through eyes of God’s love and mercy.

God's Storytime

Sunday Morning Worship with Our Children

All Pre-K through Elementary grade children are invited each Sunday to join us for “God's Story”. This is our way of connecting God’s big story to their own stories at a level appropriate for young children. Together we dive into the scripture for the day using a variety of teaching resources. Our goal is to create a safe space for children to have meaningful conversations about God, Jesus, faith, and our everyday lives.

“God’s Story” takes place during the scripture and sermon portion of our worship service (about 20-25 minutes). We meet in our Fellowship Hall, which is in visible proximity to our sanctuary and restrooms. The children are led by our wonderful team of trained and background checked adults from our congregation. If you’d like to help or have any questions, please reach out to Deacon Andrew.

Faith Talk

with Pastor Jake

Sunday mornings from 8:45 am—9:30 am
In the Fellowship Room
All ages welcome

Bring your coffee & snacks and join us for a time of weekly conversation together. Our focus will be learning basics about Christian faith, belief, and practice through a Lutheran lens. We want this to be an open time for questions and conversation—all questions are allowed and encouraged! Think of it like “Christianity 101”, designed both for folks who are newer to learning about the Christian faith, as well as for anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in the world today. We look forward to seeing you!

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
