Sunday's PreviewArise! Shine! Your light has come! This Sunday we celebrate the festival of Epiphany, and prepare for the beginning of the Epiphany season, which begins Wednesday, January 6. The traditional gospel text for Epiphany Sunday is Matthew’s telling of the Magi’s visit to pay homage to Jesus, the infant child-king, while the holy family is still in Bethlehem. The word “Epiphany” means to reveal, to shine a light upon something. How might seeing the light and love of God revealed in such a perfectly powerfully humble way transformed the Magi? How might our own experience of meeting Jesus during this time of darkness give hope and renewed purpose to our lives? What “different road” might we be called to walk as a result of our own transformation? |

Weekly COVID-19 Update
We are now back to Phase 1 of our Regathering Guidelines due to the hospitalization percentage moving over 15%. Comal county has now moved into limiting businesses to 50% occupancy as well. On a positive note, COVID cases in our congregation continue to stabilize. We are tracking members that we are aware of that have tested positive to date: · 4 active cases – one in ICU, 2 recovering at home and one in rehab If you have tested positive or know of anyone within our congregation that has tested positive, please notify the church promptly. We will be doing contract tracing and let others know of who might be at risk. In this map you will see the highlighted area, Area P. This is an exceptionally large area which includes San Antonio. The current statistics as of December 29, 2020: Hospitalizations: 17.59% this number continues to rise in our area. With Christmas gatherings behind us and New Year’s celebration in front of us, we expect the positivity rate to continue to climb through January. The Peace Regathering Team will be monitoring the daily COVID statistics and will continue to advise the church council on changes that impact our in-person worship services and church community. Our Peace Regathering Guidelines are modeled after the State of Texas opening guidelines. Instead of using active cases, which have proven to be difficult to gauge, we are monitoring the percentage of hospitalizations. |

Reminder: End of Year Generosity
First, thanks to all of you who have given so faithfully and generously through this year. When the virus changed the way we do church and ministry, no one knew how long it would last. We have learned many new ways of living our faith serving and connecting with community since March. As all of us at Peace Lutheran continue in ministry, the meaning of Emmanuel "God is with us" has grown deeper in our hearts. Helpful information for 2020 income tax deductions for charitable contributions made in 2020: Special provisions have been enacted due to the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) for relief during the pandemic which allow people to deduct charitable contributions of up to $300 from 2020 taxable income even if you don't itemize deductions. The act also temporarily suspends limits on charitable contributions. |
