Sunday's Preview
One of my favorite books to read with my grandchildren is “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” by Bill Martin and Eric Carle. As a former kindergarten teacher, it was a marvelous way to introduce young children to ‘sight’ words by using colors and repetition which in turn empowered them to read the written word. Connecting sight to an action is a valuable skill along the path to literacy. In the text this week, Matthew 25: 34-40, Jesus’ disciples are also having trouble seeing. Jesus tells them that his kingdom will be filled with those who take action when seeing someone in need. “whenever you did one of these things for someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.” Who have you seen lately that is in need? Who have you seen that is ‘not like you’? What action(s) have you taken to welcome the stranger, fed the hungry, given drink to the thirsty, clothed the naked, visited the sick or those in prison? Are You able to see the face of God in their eyes? |
Prayer - Thanksgiving
Click HERE for a video message. Join Deacon Terry Westerman and Pastor Jake Fain as they introduce the A C T S model of prayer. This week we explore prayer as Thanksgiving. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Gratitude in prayer allows us to see beyond what we don’t have and the hurts that we experience by recognizing the things God shares with us every day. |

Weekly COVID-19 Update
We continue in Phase 1 of our Regathering Guidelines as hospitalization percentage moves over 20%. Comal county has now moved into limiting businesses to 50% occupancy as well. We are tracking members that we are aware of that have tested positive to date: · 1 death If you have tested positive or know of anyone within our congregation that has tested positive, please notify the church promptly. We will be doing contract tracing and let others know of who might be at risk. In this map you will see the highlighted area, Area P. This is an exceptionally large area which includes San Antonio. The current statistics as of January 26, 2021: Hospitalizations: 23.63% this number continues to rise in our area. There's expectation that the positivity rate will continue to climb through January. Comal County has received a batch of vaccines and has opened sign up for 1A and 1B qualifiers. Go here to get on the standby list for your vaccine if you qualify. https://www.co.comal.tx.us/vaccine/StandbyList.htm The Peace Regathering Team will be monitoring the daily COVID statistics and will continue to advise the church council on changes that impact our in-person worship services and church community. Our Peace Regathering Guidelines are modeled after the State of Texas opening guidelines. Instead of using active cases, which have proven to be difficult to gauge, we are monitoring the percentage of hospitalizations. |
