Sunday's Worship PreviewThe Love Connection In the summer of 1967, the Beatles hit the sound waves with John Lennon’s song “All You Need is Love”, very simplistic and universal. The lyrics had been written for a performance of Britain’s Our World variety show. The show would reach listeners all around the world and what better message could they possibly have than to sing all you need is love! All creation needs love including us, but that isn’t the end of the story. God sent Jesus to give us a living example of the depth and abundance of that love. We can see God’s love at work in Jesus’ ministry, a ministry that included raising up disciples to carry that message into the far corners of the earth. Through Jesus, we have a connection to that love story. It is the greatesst love story ever written. God loved us so much that God gave God’s only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, once for all, so that we might be resurrected and reconnected to God in eternity. God chose us. We belong to God. We are loved by God. All we need is God’s love. |

Each year the synod holds an assembly, much like a congregational annual meeting, where members come together to learn, to share stories of God’s work in the world, to elect leaders, and establish a missional budget to advance God’s work together. The 2021 Synod Assembly runs from June 4-6 and the theme is “Live Expectantly, Love Abundantly”, centering around John 4, the story of the Samaritan women at the well. Three Expressions of the Church
We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
