Sunday's Preview
Read Mark 7: 24-37 When is the last time you felt really listened to? And when is the last time you really intently listened to someone else? Our culture is not the greatest at developing listening skills, and yet so much of Christianity is characterized by listening to God’s voice and discerning God’s will. Join us on Sunday as we explore the God who listens to us and our deepest needs and who calls us into authentic relationship. |

New Worship and Life Group SeriesRenovate: Building a Life with God If you’ve ever been part of a renovation project, you know how disruptive it can be. Your home is destroyed while the din of hammers and saws commence. But after that time of disruption, the results are a new and beautiful addition. Join us this fall as we begin a new series called Renovate: Building a Life with God beginning on September 12th and running through October 17th. Each Sunday you’ll have opportunities to dive deeper into what it means to build a life with God. 9am – Community time in the Fellowship Hall in which we have watch a brief video clip and receive a given prompt to consider. 10am – Worship time in the sanctuary with a sermon series teaching on the book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament which deals with the Israelites return from exile and rebuilding the Temple. Although the backdrop of the story is framed around the rebuilding of the Temple, the story also describes the rebuilding of the community itself. 5pm – Return to the Peace Fellowship Hall for small group, facilitated learning opportunities. Hurricane IdaInitial Response from the Gulf Coast Synod A section of roof that was blown off of a building in the French Quarter by Hurricane Ida winds blocks an intersection, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, in New Orleans. (AP Photo/Eric Gay) As we begin the process of assessment and recovery from the impact of Hurricane Ida, here are ways you can help: PRAY: Keep all those affected by the impact of Hurricane Ida in your personal and congregational prayers. Pray for first responders, government officials, Lutheran Disaster Response and other relief organizations, and for your synod’s disaster team and staff. DONATE: Financial contributions are the best way to assist pastors and deacons, congregations, and communities to get back up on their feet. You can donate to the synod disaster fund or to Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). The synod disaster fund provides immediate care and assistance to pastors, deacons, and congregations. LDR supports long-term case management and care during recovery. Both are essential work. IN-KIND DONATIONS: As we make initial assessments, we will be able to better understand what may be needed in terms of supplies and in-kind donations. Until then, the best way to support initial recovery efforts is to donate to the synod disaster fund or LDR. VOLUNTEER: **PLEASE DO NOT COME TO LOUISIANA YET** It is too early for volunteers to descend upon the impact area. First responders are still doing search and rescue, clearing roads, and handling initial recovery efforts. When the time comes, we will update you with ways you can volunteer. For more information on ways you can help, keep watching for updates or email disaster@gulfcoastsynod.org or call the Gulf Coast Synod office at 281-873-5665. |
Exploring the Bible TogetherTUESDAYS @ 6:30pm Join Pastor Jake Fain, Deacon Andrew More, and Pastor Paul Miller as we explore the Bible together. To check out this week's episode click on the title above. In the story of the Bible, God is depicted as a generous host who provides for the needs of his guests. In this video, we explore God’s plan for overcoming our selfishness by giving the ultimate gift of himself in the person of Jesus. Three Expressions of the Church
We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
