Sunday Worship & Faith Formation ResourcesSunday, November 28, 2021 1st Sunday of Advent |
Advent SeriesMaking Room You may purchase a copy of the book "Making Room" by Ed Robb HERE Learn how to make room in your heart for God and neighbor this Christmas. Often our Advent preparations have an inward focus as we prepare for the significance of God breaking into our world through the birth of the Christ child. But in a closer examination of the Advent story, we quickly learn that the focus of the coming of the newborn king is outward. Join us as we explore the warmth of welcome at Christmas following interactions with the Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, and the magi. Just as Jesus made room in God’s kingdom for a host of people who society wanted to leave on the margins, beginning with the appearance of the shepherds, we too should be asking ourselves who we can make room for this Christmas. Perhaps it is to the people in your community, or the newly immigrated family in town that doesn’t speak your language. Or maybe it’s the next-door neighbor who just settled in from yet another corporate move? The story of Christ’s birth encourages us to widen our borders and increase our sense of community—and make room for others. Sunday 10am 11/28 Making Room – “The neighbor next door” Wednesdays 6:30pm on Zoom (online only) https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84821924193 12/ 1 Stranger in a Strange Land – “The people new to community” 12/8 Leave the Light On – “The oppressed and marginalized” 12/15 Walking Each Other Home – “The church and how we live out our call”

" Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long."
Psalm 25: 4
The First Sunday of Advent’s theme is hope. Christians find our hope in God. We hunger for God and ask for guidance and strength to live fully as steward/disciples.

Seekers and Sponges Sunday Morning ClassMeeting @ 8:30 AM In-person and Zoom Join Seekers and Sponges on Sunday at 8:30am. - in-person @ Peace and on Zoom. Seekers and Sponges will continue our series Luther: Gospel, Law, and Reformation. This lecture deals with the inner context for understanding Luther's experience of the gospel. Our discussion each Sunday will be preceded by a video lecture given by Phillip Cary, Professor at Eastern University. Cary points out that while Martin Luther was only one man - a humble monk and Bible professor - he sparked a religious rebellion that changed the course of history. Who was he? What made his theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe? How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world as we know it? And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul? Please join us for a discussion following the DVD lecture. We will be meeting in person at Peace and also by Zoom. Three Expressions of the Church
We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
