What is Baptism?

Read  Luke 3:15-17, 21-22

We celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord each year at the beginning of January. Each of the four gospels records Jesus’ baptism .

For the church and for scripture, baptism is a central teaching and sacrament.

But why is baptism so important? It has much to do with the public affirmation and promise received from God.

Join us on Sunday to affirm your baptism and or learn more about the significance of one of God’s greatest gifts.

Holy Communion - Conversation & Instruction

Holy Communion - Conversation & Instruction

Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 11:30am - 1:00pm

On Sunday, January 9th Pastor Jake and Deacon Andrew will lead a time of conversation and instruction about the sacrament of Holy Communion in our sanctuary from 11:30 am – 1 pm.

We are excited to offer this for any children in our congregation who have been waiting for “First Communion” training during this Covid time. We are also opening this up to ANY of our young children and their parents who would like to learn more about this amazing gift of God’s grace, and what it means to us as a sacrament of the Church. There is no age or grade requirement – everyone is welcome! Whether your son or daughter has never tasted the bread and wine before, or has been communing for years, you all are welcome.

Lunch will be served, so please RSVP to Deacon Andrew if possible.

Lutheran Disaster Relief

Lutheran Disaster Relief

U.S. Wildfires

The Situation: On Dec. 30, the Marshall Fire ignited in Boulder County, Colo. Over 6,200 acres burned quickly, forcing the evacuations of 35,000 people. The fire spread throughout suburban neighborhoods, destroying at least 500 homes. While December wildfires are rare, the severe drought in the western United States created hazardous conditions that allowed the Marshall Fire to spread rapidly. This unusual fire is one of the impacts of a changing climate and will become increasingly more common.

Our Response: Lutheran Disaster Response is engaging with the Rocky Mountain Synod and Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains to respond to the impact of the fires. We anticipate that immediate needs will include emotional and spiritual care, temporary shelters, food and other necessities. With local partners, Lutheran Disaster Response will continue to accompany survivors throughout the years of long-term recovery. For ways to support those affected by the wildfire click HERE

Seekers and Sponges:  Sunday, January 9 - 8:30am in-person and ZOOM
Seekers and Sponges will continue with our series, Luther: Gospel, Law, and Reformation.  Our discussion each Sunday will be preceded by a video lecture given by Phillip Cary, Professor at Eastern University.   Cary points out that while Martin Luther was only one man—a humble monk and Bible professor—yet he sparked a religious rebellion that changed the course of history.  Who was he?  What made his theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe?  How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world as we know it?  And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul?  Please join us for a discussion following the DVD lecture.  We will be meeting in person at Peace and also by Zoom.

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
