Sunday's Preview

Sunday's Preview

Have you ever found yourself travelling to a destination only to discover that you had missed your exit, or taken the wrong road? How long did it take for you to stop, turn around, and change direction once you had realized your error? In Hebrew, the word for “repent” means to turn around. In this season of Lent, we are called to examine our lives and consider the direction we are heading. Are there places in our life where we might need a course correction? Are there things we are doing (or not doing) that are leading us away from, instead of towards God?

Lutheran Disaster Response

Lutheran Disaster Response

Donations needed - Eastern Europe Crisis

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on Feb. 24, nearly 3 million people have fled the country and are seeking refuge in neighboring countries. There are major humanitarian concerns for both internally displaced people and refugees. Many of these Ukrainians fleeing their homes need shelter and such basic necessities as food, water and toiletries. Care for people also includes pastoral and psychological support to address the trauma they’ve endured.

Lutheran Disaster Response is accompanying our companions in Ukraine, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, as well as such ecumenical partners as Lutheran World Federation and Church World Service, in their humanitarian responses to the crisis. These partners provide refugees with immediate support and supplies such as food, blankets, water and hygiene kits.

Giving to Lutheran Disaster Response guarantees your gift will fund ELCA-supported work through faith partners in the region. Your gifts will support people impacted by this crisis. Gifts designated to "Eastern Europe Crisis" will be used in full (100%) for direct response to assist those affected.

Wednesdays in Lent

Wednesdays in Lent

Living Our Baptism

When a baptized Christian affirms the faith (often called confirmation) the presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism and asks the question:  Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:

to live among God’s faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?

RESPONSE: We do, and ask God to help and guide us. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 236)

And so begins a daily claiming and re-discovering of the God-given gifts of discipleship. These gifts overlap and are intertwined as one gift flows into another and into faithful living.

Join us on Wednesdays in Lent from 5:45pm-6:30pm for a meal followed by worship at 6:30pm.  You may join in-person or on our livestream.

Exploring the Bible Together

Exploring the Bible Together

Zoom Bible Study every Tuesday from 6:30pm -7:30pm

Who Is God?
Trying to answer this question is a lot like trying to take a sip of water out of a fire hydrant. Our human intellect cannot fully comprehend God, and our human language cannot adequately express our understanding of God. Yet, there are some helpful ways for us to approach this question that can give us some “handles” to grab on to.

We are approaching this question with humility and curiosity, and we welcome you to join our conversation.  Anyone is welcome to join us -  no experience with Bible study (or even the Bible) is necessary!

A helpful video to watch that we are using as a starting point for our discussion is God. There is also a great Podcast series on this topic that you can find here God Podcast Series.

Seekers and Sponges:  Sunday, March 20 - 8:30am in-person and ZOOM
Seekers and Sponges will continue with our series, Luther: Gospel, Law, and Reformation.  Our discussion each Sunday will be preceded by a video lecture given by Phillip Cary, Professor at Eastern University.   Cary points out that while Martin Luther was only one man—a humble monk and Bible professor—yet he sparked a religious rebellion that changed the course of history.  Who was he?  What made his theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe?  How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world as we know it?  And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul?  Please join us for a discussion following the DVD lecture.  We will be meeting in person at Peace and also by Zoom.

Sweet Hour of Prayer Group - meeting via Zoom, no in-person meeting

Please join us as we take some time out of our busy lives to pray.  If you would like to be a part of the group, please email Becky (beckyvoges@yahoo.com).  All prayer requests will be kept confidential.

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
