Extravagant Devotion

Read John 12:1-8

In this story, Judas misinterprets as waste Mary’s extravagant act of annointing Jesus’ feet with costly perfume. Jesus recognizes that her lavish gift is both an expression of love and his coming burial.

Too often we take a utilitarian viewpoint of what we have. Jesus celebrates that Mary hasn’t just given something out of obedience or charity, rather out of extravagant devotion.

Join us on Sunday as we hear the story of God’s extravagant love and our extravagant devotion to him.

Wednesdays in Lent

Wednesdays in Lent

Living Our Baptism

When a baptized Christian affirms the faith (often called confirmation) the presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism and asks the question:  Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:

to live among God’s faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?

RESPONSE: We do, and ask God to help and guide us. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 236)

And so begins a daily claiming and re-discovering of the God-given gifts of discipleship. These gifts overlap and are intertwined as one gift flows into another and into faithful living.

Join us on Wednesdays in Lent from 5:45pm-6:30pm for a meal followed by worship at 6:30pm.  You may join in-person or on our livestream.

Young Family Easter Celebration

Young Family Easter Celebration

Saturday, April 16th 10:30AM - Noon

Children of all ages are invited to join us at the church for a morning of activities, games, music, and crafts.  We will be gathering in the Fellowship Hall.  Rather than having an Easter Egg Hunt this year (there are tons of those out there now), we are going to have a very special treat - a live butterfly release!

The butterfly is often used as a symbol for Christ’s death and resurrection - a perfect image for our preparation for Easter Sunday the following day!

Exploring the Bible Together

Exploring the Bible Together

Zoom Bible Study every Tuesday from 6:30pm -7:30pm

In our “Exploring the Bible Together” study, we meet by Zoom as a small group for about 45 minutes each week. Our study covers a wide range of topics, examining more closely the history, content, context, development, message, and interpretation of the Bible. As we do this, we grow in our understanding of the relevance and application of the Bible for our lives today.

Anyone is welcome to join us - no experience with Bible study (or even the Bible) is necessary!

Peace Ministries

Seekers and Sponges:  Sunday, April 3 - 8:30am in-person and ZOOM
Seekers and Sponges will continue with our series, Luther: Gospel, Law, and Reformation.  Our discussion each Sunday will be preceded by a video lecture given by Phillip Cary, Professor at Eastern University.   Cary points out that while Martin Luther was only one man—a humble monk and Bible professor—yet he sparked a religious rebellion that changed the course of history.  Who was he?  What made his theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe?  How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world as we know it?  And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul?  Please join us for a discussion following the DVD lecture.  We will be meeting in person at Peace and also by Zoom.

Click HERE to join by Zoom.

Sweet Hour of Prayer Group - meeting via Zoom, no in-person meeting
Our weekly Prayer Group Zooms every Monday at 9:00 am.  We will be meeting via Zoom only.   We have a devotion, share prayer requests and pray over each request. The group is led by Becky Voges. Please join us as we take some time out of our busy lives to pray.  If you would like to be a part of the group, please email Becky (beckyvoges@yahoo.com).  All prayer requests will be kept confidential.

Prayer Chain Requests - email Becky (beckyvoges@yahoo.com).

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
