Scandalous Grace

 Read  John 4:5-42

Jesus defies convention to engage a Samaritan woman in conversation. Her testimony, in turn, leads many others to faith.

There are places that we know we’re not supposed to go. It’s too scandalous. We wouldn’t be caught dead there. Jesus goes in the brightest part of the day to Samaria and does by all standards everything wrong.

But by the end of the story a woman and then an entire people’s lives have been transformed. They experienced grace.

Join us on Sunday as we too experience this scandalous, transformational grace.

Vision with Peace in Lent

Vision with Peace in Lent

As a part of our visioning discernment together as a faith community, we are tuning into God’s dream for the world. Each week in Wednesday worship, we are asking a question for you to respond to. If you don’t have the opportunity to do that in worship, please fill out the google form HERE so that we can dream together and respond as God’s church with a unified vision.

Our dreams are then put in a Word Cloud to be shared visually, as well as input to our Vision and Leadership Teams. The Word Cloud above are the dreams we shared on Ash Wednesday.

Spring Forward - Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 12, at 2am.

Spring Forward - Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 12, at 2am.

Don’t forget to set your clocks forward an hour for Sunday worship. We lose an hour of the day, but don’t miss out on an hour of worship time!

St. Baldrick’s Day Childhood Cancer Research

St. Baldrick’s Day Childhood Cancer Research

A big thank you to Brody & Shannon Johnson and Nate Fain and for all who supported them as they shaved their heads over the weekend as a part of the St. Baldrick Cancer Research Fundraiser.

Our team was able to raise over $3000. What a generous gift!

St. Baldrick’s began when three Irish-Americans wanted to raise money to provide more resources for child cancer. They started it on St. Patrick’s Day, and they decided they’d shave their heads to raise support. Hence, the name St. Baldrick stuck. Today it’s the largest nongovernmental funding for child cancer research sprawling across the countries with groups forming their own head-shaving venues.

Your gift will give kids hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants. Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Join the fight against childhood cancer. If you’d still like to give, you are welcome to share by  visiting: www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/135098/2023

Vision Board Workshop - God-Sized Dreams: Come Dream with God for Peace

Vision Board Workshop - God-Sized Dreams: Come Dream with God for Peace

April 16 @ 11:30am until 2:00pm

And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time. Habakkuk 2:2-3 (The MSG)

You are invited to come and create a Vision Board for Peace Lutheran Church on Sunday, April 16th from 11:30 AM til 2:00 PM. There will be a free-will offering lunch. You have been invited by Pastor Jake and the leadership teams of Peace Lutheran to listen for God’s whispering voice of what God has in store for Peace Lutheran.

What is a vision board? It is a visual and written representation of our prayerful hopes, dreams, goals, and promises from God for our future. This is a creative process, and we encourage and invite all, including kids to come and participate.

We are looking for OLD magazines and newspapers that can be donated for this project. You can drop them off in the designated area in the church narthex.

Register HERE by April 12th.

Exploring the Bible Together

Exploring the Bible Together

Zoom Bible Study every Tuesday from 6:30pm -7:30pm

In our “Exploring the Bible Together” study, we meet by Zoom as a small group for about 45 minutes each week. Our study covers a wide range of topics, examining more closely the history, content, context, development, message, and interpretation of the Bible. As we do this, we grow in our understanding of the relevance and application of the Bible for our lives today.

We have begun a new study series on the Gospel of Matthew.  This church year the majority of our gospel readings will come from Matthew.  It is a beautiful writing which shares the story of Jesus in a powerful way.

Anyone is welcome to join us - no experience with Bible study (or even the Bible) is necessary!

SEEKERS AND SPONGES:   meets on Sunday mornings @  8:30AM in-person and ZOOM

Seekers and Sponges has started a new five part video series by Richard Rohr called  'Embracing an Alternative Orthodoxy'.  In this series, Richard Rohr explores five topics central to Franciscan theology and practice:

2.     Eco-Spirituality
3.     The Christ who Existed before Christianity
4.     Orthopraxy vs. Verbal Orthodoxy (Living Like Jesus)
5.     Mysticism over Moralism

Each session starts with a video and then our class will discuss reflections from the talk. Our discussions are lively and bring out various perspectives about how faith impacts our lives.   Please join us in the multimedia classroom at the end of the hallway.  Your faith walk will be deepened as a result!

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
