Sunday’s Preview – Voice

Sunday’s Preview – Voice

Read Luke 5:1-11

Simon is down in the dumps after not catching anything all day. But Jesus calls out to him to try again, and the result was amazing. Even more, it was nothing compared to what Jesus had in store next. The call to come and follow him was a call to experience life on Jesus’ terms which saw a brave new world and a place for Simon to use his gifts.

Join us on Sunday as we explore what it means to be called by Jesus.

Mission Spotlight January 2025

Mission Spotlight January 2025

First Footing

NB Housing Partners was formed in 2013 to address the need for safe, sustainable housing to fill gaps in housing in our community. Our community's rapid growth, particularly over the last decade, has led to a large housing deficit of approximately 9,500 units for lower income levels. As a result, housing insecurity and homelessness has also grown in our community. To address this crucial need, the agency provides the following services:

* Health and housing-focused street outreach (in collaboration with other agencies and called the health outreach multi-disciplinary engagement or HOME Team) to reach unhoused individuals and connect them to community resources

*   Shelter and support services for up to 42 adults at a time who are experiencing homelessness and would like assistance establishing income and attaining housing (called the First Footing program). Services include basic needs, targeted case management focused on housing goals, job assistance, income benefit enrollment help, transportation, and linkages to behavioral healthcare and medical care, including assistance with medical costs. We plan to add another 20-26 beds by the end of 2025.

*  Housing assistance including housing start-up costs for those choosing to end their homelessness and linkages to help with housing costs for individuals or families that are at risk of losing their housing. We also oversee a community process that tracks individuals who are still in need of housing and prioritizes housing for individuals and families with the highest needs.

*Starting in early 2025, we will offer short-term housing for up to 6 adults whose income is below current market housing costs, giving them time to increase their income or gain admission into subsidized housing in the community.

*Longer-term housing. We designed a housing community to support families who are struggling with housing costs, which the New Braunfels Food Bank is now constructing and operating. We will be building additional housing for adults in the next 3-5 years.

In 2023, 572 individuals sought assistance in this community due to experiencing homelessness, a 20% increase from 2022 and more than the number sheltered in 2021 and 2022 combined.

We are committed to taking strategic steps to address both urgent housing crises as well as ensuring that long-term affordable housing options are available at every income level.

January 26, 2025 (3rd Sunday after the Epiphany, Year C)

Psalm 19:9b, 10: The ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey.

Stewardship is all about priorities and values. What do we prize above all else? Generous steward/disciples value the teachings of God that guide us to fulfilled lives.

God's Storytime

Sunday Morning Worship with Our Children

All Pre-K through Elementary grade children are invited each Sunday to join us for “God's Story”. This is our way of connecting God’s big story to their own stories at a level appropriate for young children. Together we dive into the scripture for the day using a variety of teaching resources. Our goal is to create a safe space for children to have meaningful conversations about God, Jesus, faith, and our everyday lives.

“God’s Story” takes place during the scripture and sermon portion of our worship service (about 20-25 minutes). We meet in our Fellowship Hall, which is in visible proximity to our sanctuary and restrooms. The children are led by our wonderful team of trained and background checked adults from our congregation.

Seekers & Sponges

Short Stories by Jesus

Sunday mornings @ 8:30AM in-person in Peace Conference Room and on ZOOM

Our new topic for Seekers and Sponges is a Faith and Reason seminar;
Does Christianity Have a Future?
Schism, Scandal, and Loss of the Sacred
Speakers: John Dominic Crossan, Marcus Borg, and Joan Chittister
recorded live at a seminar in 2013

All are welcome to join us as we wrestle with these topics and how
they impact our faith and actions in this current world.

Sundays, 8:30 am. In person and Zoom.
Life abounds with questions. We ask for answers. You're invited to check it out!

This is a self-led group-  We all learn from each other.
All are welcome to join us at any time.

In our class, everyone in our group becomes a teacher for one another, sharing experiences and perspectives that facilitates a respectful, enlightening approach to adult learning.

Click HERE to join by Zoom.

Faith Talk

with Pastor Jake

Sunday mornings from 8:45 am—9:30 am
In the Fellowship Room
All ages welcome

Bring your coffee & snacks and join us for a time of weekly conversation together. Our focus will be learning basics about Christian faith, belief, and practice through a Lutheran lens. We want this to be an open time for questions and conversation—all questions are allowed and encouraged! Think of it like “Christianity 101”, designed both for folks who are newer to learning about the Christian faith, as well as for anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in the world today. We look forward to seeing you!

Three Expressions of the Church

We are part of one church body organized in three expressions — congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions but all three together share a common mission of doing God’s work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, they ensure a solid foundation of leadership, active involvement in communities, opportunities for dialogue and diverse perspectives, creative partnerships, and support for members and ministries of the ELCA.
