Mission Spotlight September 2025Three years ago, a devastating fire ravaged Crisis Center of Comal County. Now a new center on Landa Street is expected to be completed in early 2026.
The new shelter is not just a building, it will be a lifeline and haven for its residents as they too rebuild their lives. The Crisis Center will be creating a new location for healing, safety and hope.
The three story edifice will provide a kitchen and pantry, office space, and sexual assault examination room on the first floor with living spaces for families to heal and grow on the remaining two floors.
The third floor is designed for transitional living so that residents can prepare for their lives beyond the shelter. The site also will have outdoor spaces, including pet shelter/kennel and a playground. This thoughtfully designed complex offers a safe harbor for women and families to recover from the circumstances that brought them to CCCC.
The new Crisis Center will be able to house about 90 residents, Approximately $4 million of the $14 million capital campaign to cover building construction and operation costs have been raised.
Throughout the building of the new shelter, CCCC has been able to continue to provide emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault as well as women facing homelessness. Clients receive comprehensive services as they work toward achieving self-sufficiency.
Case managers work individually with clients and provide goal focused services. Trained advocates assist on a 24/7 hotline with urgent support, information and referrals related to crisis or trauma service, domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness.
Licensed counselors assist clients in overcoming victimization effects through individual and group counseling and offer support groups for adults as well as children.
Legal advocacy for clients includes preparing protective orders, affidavits, and police reports, offering escorts to law enforcement and criminal justice offices, and aiding in completing crime victim compensation claims.
The Crisis Center of Comal County offers education and prevention programs on domestic violence and sexual assault for civic, education and church groups.
As shelter residents begin their next phase of healing and success CCCC offers support to secure safe, stable, sustainable housing.
